ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM - ISSUES MAGAZINE SHOP

Regional Archive curates the Artist in Residence program at Issues Magazine Shop. The program extends the art from the printed page to the liminal space of the shop, creating new opportunities to feature artists working in print and on paper.Print publications have long been a source of inspiration and reference for artistic works and play an integral role in expanding the ability to share art with a wider audience. With this notion in mind, the Regional Archive continues this artistic expansion with a curatorial program focused on Canada-based artists working in print and on paper. New artists and works will be featured every quarter with an emphasis on approachable price points and accompanying programming to provide opportunities to connect with the work and artists more intimately.

Current Artist in Residence: Tara Newell

Tara Newell is a British multidisciplinary photographer and artist based in Toronto. Her art practice explores the concept of
wordplay and ‘double meaning’, using familiar objects and scenes to evoke deeper interpretations. Through her work, she invites
the audience to engage with words and language from a different perspective, encouraging the viewer to interpret hidden layers
of meaning within the pieces.

Previous Artist in Residence: Shea Chang

Shea Chang's artistic practice traverses the realms of drawing and painting through sculpture & installation, printmaking, and public art. Often described as primal, archeological, and reminiscent of alien ephemera or vintage graphic design, Shea’s imagery has manifested through solo & collaborative projects in Canada, and internationally for over 15 years. Shea teaches as Assistant Professor at OCAD University and works from her studio in Hamilton.
